Do not allow merchants to “Double Swipe” your payment cards
Please do not allow merchants to swipe your payment cards at their cash registers after the transaction is approved in response to the first swipe. This practice is called “double swiping”, and the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) has issued a directive to stop this practice effective from 15 June 2017. The CBB notes that “double swiping” has the potential to expose cardholder data as well as sensitive authentication data for malpractices. The CBB has published a set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) as well as brochure on this directive.
